Clear Civic Journal

Editorial policy

Clear Civic Journal aims to make civic processes understandable without overstating what an explanation can establish. Our standards apply to editorial material across the publication.

Accuracy and clarity

We check names of concepts, descriptions of processes, and factual claims against suitable material before publication. We explain technical terms in context and separate description from interpretation. If a topic varies between places or changes over time, we say so and avoid presenting one version as universal.

Independence

Editorial decisions are made for reader understanding, not to promote a political party, candidate, institution, or contributor. We consider proposals and material on their merits, and we do not promise coverage in exchange for support, access, or payment.

Corrections

If a reader identifies a possible error, we review the relevant passage and make a correction when warranted. We aim to make substantive changes clear in the article, including what was corrected, rather than silently leaving a misleading account in place.

Partner material and illustrations

Paid or partner material is clearly identified as such and kept distinct from editorial explanations. Any collaboration is labelled so readers can understand its nature. Some illustrations may be generated with artificial intelligence; where this applies, the image is identified accordingly and is not presented as documentary evidence.
